A good exercise program is a vital component of any weight loss plan. So far, you haven’t heard anything that you did not already know. However, what exactly is a good exercise program? How do you know what type of exercise regimen to choose? The answer is up to you. To know what kind of exercise is best, you must determine your personal exercise weight loss goals. Different types of exercises affect our bodies in very different ways. Envision where you want your level of fitness to be, what type of body you are aiming to achieve, and the lifestyle that you wish to lead.

A good exercise weight loss plan is not difficult to put together if you have some general information about exercise itself and some basic knowledge of the human anatomy. All exercise is not created equal. If we want to maximize the effects of exercise to achieve our goals we must first realize those goals and cater our workout to the specific effects that this exercise will have on our bodies. Although there are multitudes of exercise programs to choose from and as many combinations of exercise regimens, there are basically two types of exercise that you should be familiar with. One category of exercise is aerobic exercise.

This type of exercise is geared toward increasing the amount of oxygen intake in your body. Some examples of aerobic exercise include walking, jogging, step aerobics, and other exercises that you would find in a local aerobics class or in many exercise videos available on the market today. Aerobic exercise is a longer type of workout and is catered toward building stamina, improving cardiovascular functions, and burning calories. Athletes such as long distance runners may concentrate their workouts on aerobics to build the stamina they need to complete events that require longevity. Aerobics is a great activity to implement into an exercise weight loss plan. The counterpart to aerobic exercise is anaerobic exercise.

An example of anaerobic exercise would include weight and strength training. In contrast to aerobic exercise, an anaerobic regimen would be used by a sprinter as opposed to a long distance runner. Keeping in mind that while weight and strength training burn fat, they also build up muscle. If your goal is to implement an exercise weight loss program, you will lose fat, but also build body mass and in turn increase weight. If specifically losing weight, and not changing mass from one form to the other, is what you are after, then an aerobic exercise program would be your best choice. What are your goals?

You have extra pounds that you want to lose to get back to your natural weight. Your body has built up some extra fat that you would like to shed and you want to get back to a previous body size. You need to get in shape so that you feel better, have more energy, and can again join in activities that you once enjoyed.
